Whitney Center, Incorporated

Summary

Whitney Center opened in 1979 with 202 independent living apartments and 59 skilled nursing beds.  Over time, consumer preferences for larger apartments and insufficient IL turnover necessitated the combination of some IL apartments and designation of specific IL units for assisted living.  Whitney Center is currently comprised of 178 IL apartments, 6 assisted living units and a 59 bed SNF.

Planning began in 2006 and an advance registration program began in 2008. The number of confirmed depositors required for expansion financing was achieved in summer 2009.

On December 2, 2009, Whitney Center broke ground on the Renaissance Expansion, a two-phase project that will be contained within the community's 15-acre site. Earlier that same day, $89 million in tax-exempt bonds were issue to enable the beginning of the project.

Phase One is the addition of 87 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments in a new seven-story building, a 218-seat Cultural Arts Center, a bistro/marketplace and expanded and redesigned main dining room, new parking garage, and a glass-walled interior promenade called Main Street. An art gallery, salon/spa, business center, mailing center and expanded library will be found along Main Street.

Phase Two is slated to begin in 2014 and includes the replacement of the current Health Center building with a new four-story Health and Wellness Center that addresses Assisted Living, rehabilitation, skilled nursing and memory support living. Phase Two also supports Whitney Center's Life Care program, which guarantees all residents continuing care should their health needs ever require it.

Eventus Role

Whitney Center retained Eventus Strategic Partners in January 2006 as its development manager to revise the previously conceived concept plan and manage the continuing development of this project.
